System requirements for Backdrop

Before installing Backdrop, make sure your Mac meets the necessary system requirements for optimal performance with animated wallpapers.

Minimum Requirements

macOS Version:

  • macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later

Hardware:

  • All Mac models running macOS 14.0 or later
  • 4GB RAM minimum
  • 1GB available storage space

Account Requirements:

  • Active Apple ID with iCloud enabled
  • iCloud account must not be restricted (no parental controls)
  • iCloud is required to browse and download wallpapers from the Backdrop community platform

For the best experience with high-quality animated wallpapers:

Performance:

  • Apple Silicon (M1) Mac or later for optimal performance
  • 8GB RAM or more
  • SSD storage for faster wallpaper loading

Display:

  • Retina display for crisp wallpaper quality
