Backdrop 2.10: A Different Backdrop for Every Space

Backdrop 2.10 gives each of your desktop Spaces its own live wallpaper, plays your Lock Screen separately, redesigns user profiles and starts faster after login.

Backdrop 2.10 is out today, October 16. This one is for everyone who keeps a few desktops going: each Space can now have a backdrop of its own.

A different backdrop for every Space

Configure each of your desktop Spaces individually. To set it up, turn off Same backdrop on all Spaces for a display in Settings › Displays, then choose a backdrop for each of its Spaces, or keep your macOS wallpaper on some of them. Different backdrops per Space need macOS 26 or later.

Separate Lock Screen playback

With a backdrop per Space, your Lock Screen shows the backdrop of the Space you lock from, or one Lock Screen for all your Spaces. Like per-Space backdrops, this needs macOS 26 or later.

Redesigned user profiles

Profiles now have a header backdrop, most-loved work, an About section and links. You can customize your own profile the same way.

Faster

  • Backdrops start faster after login.
  • The Lock Screen switches faster.

Fixed

  • Installing over a running copy of Backdrop now shows all your options right away.
  • Backdrop no longer quits at its smallest window size.

Let me know how you set up your Spaces. If you already have Backdrop, choose Check for Updates in the app. If you're new, try Backdrop, live wallpapers for your Mac, free with up to 3 watermarked wallpapers.
