13 Superhero Live Wallpapers for Mac: Spider-Man to Batman

13 superhero live wallpapers for Mac, from Spider-Man and Black Panther to Batman and Invincible. Ten are 4K, and you can try three free.

If you want Spider-Man swinging past the moon behind your windows, or Batman standing guard over Gotham while you answer email, a superhero live wallpaper is the easiest way to get there. Backdrop's public gallery has around 50 superhero scenes, so I went through them and kept 13: five Spider-Man and Spider-Verse picks, three more Marvel heroes, three from DC, and two from Invincible.

One thing first if you found these on your phone or a Windows PC: Backdrop is a Mac app and needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. You can try it free for as long as you like with up to three watermarked wallpapers, enough to line up Spider-Man, Batman and Invincible and see which one you actually keep.

The pictures below are still frames; open a pick's heading to watch the loop on its gallery page. All 13 are community uploads, credited by the name the gallery shows. Iron Man's HUD, Miles Morales in the snow and another Batman and Superman live in the movie and TV live wallpapers roundup, so I've left them out here.

Spider-Man and the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man pages get more searches than any other hero in the gallery, so he gets the most picks: four Spider-Man scenes and one for Spider-Gwen.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man leaping above a group of red-clad ninja fighters on a rooftop, with a burning city skyline glowing orange behind them and a Spider-Man Brand New Day title at the bottom

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. The most-searched Spider-Man page in the gallery right now. It's a movie-poster style scene: Spider-Man mid-leap over a pack of ninjas while the city burns in orange light. The fires and embers flicker while everyone holds their pose, so it feels dramatic without being busy. 4K, and a little sharper than the rest at 4096 × 2304. The title sits at the bottom, under your Dock.

Spider-Man Black Suit

A black and white drawing of Spider-Man seen from behind in the black suit, with the large white spider symbol across his back on a pure black background

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. Pure black with Spider-Man's back in the symbiote suit picked out in white ink. It barely moves, which is the point: it looks sharp in dark mode, keeps your icons readable, and is the easiest pick here on battery. 4K.

Marvel Rivals Spider-Man

Spider-Man in a red and blue suit standing on a light geometric background with a large red graphic of his mask behind him

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. Spider-Man from Marvel Rivals, standing on a clean geometric background, then flipping down into a low crouch before the loop resets. It's the brightest Spider-Man pick and suits a light-mode desktop. 1080p.

Spider-Man Swing

Spider-Man swinging through the night sky on a web line in front of a huge glowing full moon, with birds and a city rooftop below

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. This is the one to pick if you want him actually swinging. Spider-Man swings in toward you past a huge full moon on a web line, then hangs in slow motion before the loop restarts. It moves a lot, so it works best on a second display or a desktop you're not reading from. 1080p.

Spider-Gwen

An illustrated Gwen Stacy in her white Spider-Gwen suit and hood, sitting by a window with city buildings behind her and looking at her phone

Gallery credit: revvy. A rare quiet superhero scene: Gwen Stacy in her suit, curled up by a window and scrolling her phone. The animation is gentle and the palette is soft white and grey, the gentlest mood in this section. 4K.

More Marvel Heroes

Three very different moods: a dark close-up, a comic gag and something almost still.

Black Panther

Black Panther in his black textured suit crouching forward with one clawed hand reaching out, against a smoky beige background

Gallery credit: MekaIgwe. Black Panther in full suit, lunging toward you out of a smoky background. The haze drifts and the figure shifts slightly, and the warm neutral colours sit nicely behind windows. 1080p.

Deadpool Peeking Over Wall

A comic-style Deadpool peeking over a black wall with his red-gloved hands gripping the edge, against a teal background

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. The funniest wallpaper in the list. Deadpool peeks over the bottom of your screen, and his head and eyes shift as if he's checking what you're working on. The loop is only five seconds, and the black lower half keeps your Dock clear. 4K.

Silver Surfer

A tiny Silver Surfer seen from behind, standing on his glowing white board in the lower right of a vast black starfield

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. The Silver Surfer as a tiny figure on his glowing board, alone in a sea of black. It's almost still, with only a faint shimmer in the starfield, and nearly the whole screen is empty space for your icons and windows. 4K. Another cosmic Silver Surfer is in the space live wallpapers roundup.

DC Heroes

Two takes on Batman, one neon and one rainy, and Superman over the Earth.

Batman Beyond

A small Batman Beyond figure standing on a rooftop beneath a giant red bat symbol, in a neon purple and red futuristic city with rain falling

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. A giant red bat symbol hangs over a neon future Gotham, with a tiny Batman Beyond on the rooftops below. Rain streaks down and the signs pulse. It's the most colourful pick in the post, and the hero is small enough that it reads as a cityscape. 4K.

Batman in Night City

Batman in armoured suit standing on a ledge high above a dark rainy Gotham City at night, with a lit gothic clock tower in the right foreground

Gallery credit: Samurai_JackCI. Despite the title, this is Gotham, from the Arkham Knight game: Batman on a ledge, rain falling over the city and lights flickering far below. Batman doesn't move, so the scene stays calm, and the dark tones keep text easy to read. 4K. If you like game scenes, the gaming live wallpapers roundup has plenty more.

Fly Son, It's Time

Superman seen in silhouette from behind, arms spread and cape flowing, hovering above the curve of the Earth with the sun glowing behind him

Gallery credit: Mithrandir. Superman in silhouette above the Earth, with the sun rising behind him and his cape moving. It's a short loop and very simple, a big dark sky with a glow in the middle, framed by thin black letterbox bars top and bottom. 4K.

Invincible

Two scenes from Invincible for anyone who wants a hero most desktops don't have yet.

Invincible and Omni-Man

Invincible seen from behind on the left, facing Omni-Man, who floats with his cape spread above golden orange clouds

Gallery credit: Backdrop User. Mark and his father facing each other above golden clouds. The clouds drift and Omni-Man's cape moves, and the warm light makes it one of the friendliest-looking scenes here, even if fans know how that conversation goes. 4K.

Invincible

Invincible in a dark battle-worn suit standing in front of a red background with large glowing INVINCIBLE lettering across the top

Gallery credit: MekaIgwe. Mark Grayson in a battered suit under a glowing red title. It's nearly still, just a soft glow, so it's the boldest-looking low-motion pick in the list. 4K.

How to Set a Superhero Live Wallpaper on Your Mac

macOS can show photos, Apple's dynamic wallpapers and its aerial videos in Wallpaper settings, but it can't play a looping scene you pick yourself. Backdrop adds that, and each pick above opens directly in the app:

  1. Download Backdrop and open it.
  2. Open a pick's gallery page from this list, watch the preview, then choose Open in Backdrop.
  3. Click the wallpaper in Backdrop to download it and set it as your desktop. On macOS 26 or later it plays on the Lock Screen as well; on macOS 15 Sequoia, turn on Lock Screen support in Backdrop's Settings first. How to change your Mac Lock Screen walks through it.
Backdrop 2.7 Discover showing themed wallpaper collections

For the full walkthrough, see how to set a video as your wallpaper on macOS.

Tip: Two displays? Put Spider-Man Swing on the second screen and Spider-Man Black Suit on the one you work on. Backdrop can play a different wallpaper on each; different live wallpapers on multiple displays shows how.

Will a Live Wallpaper Slow Down Your Mac?

Not noticeably, even with Spider-Man Swing playing. Backdrop lists less than 0.3% CPU usage when running on a MacBook Pro (as of October 2026), pauses playback automatically whenever an app goes full screen, and optimises further on battery power. On battery all day, the near-still picks, Spider-Man Black Suit, Silver Surfer and Invincible, are the gentlest. The live wallpaper performance guide has the numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes. The Iron Man HUD wallpaper, a full heads-up display with moving readouts, is in the movie and TV live wallpapers roundup and opens in Backdrop from its gallery page.
